Clinics with Rita Brown

Train with the Perspective of a USEF “S” Judge

Rita’s philosophy as a clinician is rooted in the belief that good dressage training should develop a better horse and rider—not simply produce a better test. With decades of experience developing horses through the Grand Prix level, coaching riders from the beginning levels through FEI, and judging competitions throughout the country, Rita brings a uniquely well-rounded perspective to every clinic.

Her approach is classical, practical, and individualized. Rather than applying the same formula to every horse and rider, Rita looks at the partnership in front of her and identifies the changes that will make the greatest difference. She focuses on creating correct basics, improving communication between horse and rider, and giving riders tools they can continue to use long after the clinic is over.

What makes a clinic with Rita particularly valuable is the perspective she brings as a USEF “S” Dressage Judge. As a Senior Judge, Rita evaluates riders across all national and FEI levels, giving her an exceptional understanding of what judges are looking for as a horse-and-rider combination progresses through the levels.

She is able to bridge the often-overlooked gap between training at home and performing in the show ring. Rita can explain not only what needs to improve, but why it matters, how it affects the overall quality of the work, and how those improvements translate into a more successful dressage test.

For riders preparing to compete, her judge’s eye is especially valuable. She can quickly identify where points are being gained or lost, recognize the details that may keep a good test from becoming an excellent one, and help riders understand how to present their horse to the best of its ability—without sacrificing correct training for the sake of a score.

At the same time, Rita’s clinics are not limited to competitive riders. Her extensive experience teaching adult amateurs and riders at a wide range of levels allows her to make sophisticated dressage concepts understandable, approachable, and relevant to each rider’s individual goals.

Whether a rider is working toward their first recognized show, pursuing a USDF medal, moving into the FEI levels, or simply striving to create a more correct and harmonious partnership with their horse, Rita’s goal is the same: to leave every rider with a clearer understanding of their horse, their riding, and the path forward.
